New Delhi: Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has finally broken his silence on being not selected in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Malik said that his job is to perform whenever he gets a chance and the decision of his selection lies with the team management or the PCB. Malik featured in the National T20 Cup after missing out on the Asia Cup and scored 204 runs in 9 innings at a strike rate of 140.68, including two half-centuries.
The veteran batsman had earlier performed brilliantly in the Pakistan Super League. Malik then scored 401 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 137.32 which included three half-centuries. Malik has not got a chance in the national T20 team since the T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh in November last year. Malika was not selected for the upcoming T20 World Cup and the 40-year-old has no regrets about it.
Malik was quoted as saying by Sama TV, ‘Whenever I get a chance, my responsibility is to play cricket. It is up to the team management whether they choose me or not. Whenever I get a chance, I will try to give my best. I have no problem with anyone. I am not against anyone because staying positive is a big reason for my success in my career.
Malik also revealed that he was in constant touch with Babar Azam. Malik said that given the responsibility of the captaincy, he kept Babar busy and never pressurized him to make his selection. Malik said, ‘Me and Babar were in constant touch. Yes, earlier we used to talk more, but now that he is the captain, he needs to be given more space. I myself have gone through this thing, so I have not put any pressure till date and never will. I will never try to persuade.’
