Pakistan vs India Match Statistical Highlights – Asia Cup 2014

What a thriller it turned out to be in the end, a typical Pakistan vs India encounter! The cricket fans couldn’t have demanded anything more than this. The nail biting finish!

After being asked to bat first on a flat batting track Indian batting seemed to struggle after getting 4 for 103. Though they were good on the run rate but this was really a troublesome positions as wickets in hand are always going to be the key. A couple of partnerships in the middle allowed India to take their total to 245. Rayudu played brilliantly for his 58 runs innings while a handy knock of 23 from Karthik was also a great contribution in the end. But it was Jadeja’s 52 runs knock that proved to be crucial in the end for India’s cause as he survived a couple of chances to get to that point.

Talha was brilliant with the ball with his 2 for 22 while Hafeez also picked up a couple of wickets as well. But the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan was Saeed Ajmal as he picked up 3 wickets and that too at crucial moments of the game.

Pakistan started their chase in the most prolific of ways with a 71 runs opening stand between Sharjeel Khan and Ahmad Shehzad. Once Sharjeel was sent back to the hut by Ashwin, Pakistan seemed to start stumbling as the lost wickets one after the other and were finding it hard to see of the sharp spin from Mishra and at a point they were 113 for 4. After that it was Mohammad Hafeez and Sohaib Maqsood who built an 87 runs partnership consolidating the Pakistani run chase. But when India got rid of Hafeez and then Sohaib Maqsood after just 3 runs the momentum also tilted towards India. But the brilliance from Shahid Afridi in the end scoring 34 off just 33 balls proved to be the difference as he hit 2 sixes of two balls in the last over and won it for Pakistan.

Ashwin picked up 3 for 44 and a couple of wickets each went to Mishra and Kumar as well.
