No one would have expected such a dramatic ODI series between Zimbabwe and Pakistan. We’ve now reached the 3rd and final ODI of the series. The last game has now turned out to be more of a decider of the series. With Zimbabwe winning the first game quite easily and Pakistan striking back hard in the second one, we can expect some real drama in Harare on 31st of August as the two teams meet in the last game.
- Pakistan vs Zimbabwe ODI Series
- Zimbabwe vs Pakistan
Both the captains have led their sides wonderfully so far and have scored runs with the bat as well. It’s going to be the game of nerves in the end for sure. Pakistan have a little edge over the Zimbabweans considering the fact that their overall reputation in the international circuit is far better than the hosts.
As far as the batting is concerned, Zimbabwean top order has been splendid on the tour so far except a single failure in the last game. Masakadza and Sibanda have been putting up good partnerships at the top and this will be their job in 3rd ODI as well. They will certainly have to provide the middle order players with some solid foundation. Some other players to name for Zimbabwe include the captain Brendan Taylor who has seemed to get back his lost form and besides him Sean Williams and Malcolm Waller have been doing their job wonderfully in the middle order. They will certainly have to perform well in the last ODI as well so that Zimbabwe can fancy their chances to seal the series. The lower middle order, however, for Zimbabwe hasn’t been amongst the runs and a good knock is due especially on Elton Chigumbura and Prosper Utseya as both these players are quite capable of hitting a few towards the end of the innings.
Zimbabwean bowlers did a wonderful job in the first ODI but they really lost track in the second game. If Zimbabwe have to win this last match then there bowlers will really have to show some disciplined performance otherwise it will be a long hope for the minnows.
As far as Pakistan is concerned, they are by far a better side than Zimbabwe. Hence, they are still the favorites to win the series even after losing the first game. Some of the players in the spot light for Pakistan in last ODI will be Mohammad Hafeez who struck a splendid 136* scoring at more than run-a-ball. Besides him, Ahmad Shehzad and Nasir Jamshed will have to play well and give Pakistan a good start to lay the foundation of a big total. In last game Umar Amin showed his skills in the middle of the innings and the captain will certainly be hoping same sort of stuff from him at least once more. The captain missed it out in the last game but he’ll really have to lead his side from the front like he did in the first game. Some consistency will be needed from Afridi as well.
It seemed that Pakistani bowlers, who were pretty ordinary in the first game, got their confidence back in the second ODI. So they will really make life harder for the Zimbabwean batsmen in the middle. Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan and Saeed Ajmal will really be worth watching in the last affair between the two sides in limited overs cricket on this tour.
