Recently Pakistan showed some good form when the played this very team in the warm-up game prior to the commencement of tournament and they were victorious in the end beating the opponent by a 6 wickets margin.

Pakistan had a poor day with the bat against West Indies where they could manage only 170. Besides Misbah-ul-Haq and Nasir jamshed who played magnificently for 96* and 50 respectively, none of their batters could manage to cross the digit of 10. Even though the bowlers put up a great show and picked up 8 of the opponent wickets and caused so much panic for the opponents but the batting woes of Pakistan should be addressed immediately if they are really willing to get rid of the strong Protease side.

Pakistan will have to maintain a good run rate against South Africa, especially in the starting overs, while keeping wickets intact so that they don’t have to face pressure at later stages. The middle order needs someone steady besides Misbah so that they both can anchor the innings and build a solid foundation for the lower middle order batsmen.

Pakistani bowling was commendable the other day and a lot would depend on the bowlers in the next game as well. Irfan was outstanding with 3 wickets whereas Wahab and Saeed were also good with 2 wickets each. Junaid Khan was quite impressive in the warm-up game against South Africa and would love to repeat that performance.

The South Africans were geared up when they came out to bat against the world champions and now with the return of Dale Steyn their bowling line will also be even more strengthened. The partnership between Robing Peterson and the captain AB de Villiers was threatening for the Dhoni XI and they had almost spoiled the party for Indians. The interesting thing here is that the South Africans couldn’t manage to maintain their run rate as soon as spinners came over and they lost 3 quick wickets at a crucial time. This shows that they are shaky against the spin and we all know that Pakistanis are a splendid spinning unit. So it can be a great tussle on the day.

Ryan McLaren was brilliant both with the bat and the ball as well and can be a hard pill to swallow for the Pakistanis. He was also the highest wicket taker for South Africa in the ODI series between the two sides earlier this year.

South Africans have just been shattered by another huge blow as Morne Morkel is being ruled out of the tournament because of the quad strain and this would hurt them badly. But his absence may not be felt as Dale Steyn is expected to make his comeback in the next game after the injury and will be leading the fast bowling department for the protease.
