Bangladesh is ready to take on Afghanistan in the very first match of the T20 World Cup 2014 at their home ground. The match is scheduled to start in just about a couple of hours’ time and the spectators in Dhaka are charged up to witness yet another scintillating game of cricket.
Bangladesh will be eyeing a big total as this is what can increase their chances of outsmarting Afghanistan today. They are quite capable of doing so and most of their batsmen are in great knick with the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. The Asia Cup’s leading run scorer for them, Anamul Haque, faltered early in the first couple of warm up encounters and will have to come up with something he is known for today. If these 4 players fire for Bangladesh at the top, they will simply be in a great position to win this very first encounter of the tournament and get onto the winning streak which they can look to continue in the matches to come.
Bangladeshi bowling line has also been strengthened somewhat and as Mashrafe Mortaza has made his comeback into the side, they have a wicket taking option for them first up. Besides, Al Amin Hossain, Sohag Gazi and Shakib Al Hasan can play a vital role for them in the match.
Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh, quite surprisingly, in the match they played in Asia Cup and will be looking to repeat another similar performance. But the thing is that they were down and out in the batting department in that match too and had it not been Asghar Stanikzai and Samiullah Shenwari to rescue them they couldn’t have been able to clinch that historic win. But that was one-off event and the world knows that the Afghans are a far better T20 side and they would not spare this chance to defeat Bangladesh yet another time.
In the warm up matches, their batsmen seemed to have got some rhythm and will be looking to convert their good form into a brilliant knock in the ground today. Players who’ll be in the spotlight for them will be Mohammad Nabi, Asghar Stanikzai, Samiullah Shenwari, Shafiqullah and Najeeb Tarakai. Their bowling has always been their strong point and with bowlers like Mirwais Ashraf, Shapoor Zadran and Dawlat Zadran, they will be expected to make it harder for the Bangladeshi batsmen.
