India don’t have much at stake as they head towards the final match of 5 ODIs series versus Zimbabwe. After they have registered 4th consecutive and comfortable win against the minnows in last game, it’s the high time for India to give a chance to Parveez Rasool and Ajinkya Rahane. Both these guys were in the pavilion all through the series and are still looking to get a chance in last game.
Toss: India won the toss and decided to bowl once again.
Besides a fantastic debut by youngster Mohit Sharma, Indian selectors and captain would certainly be amazed by current form of Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma. Rohit couldn’t cash in so many opportunities given to him and Raina also seemed scratchy with all the chances he had. How these two play for India is quite significant for the team’s future in long run as far as the ODIs are concerned. They are considered a regular feature of the strong Indian side and are the core of Indian squad for upcoming World Cup in 2015.
The positive from India’s perspective in this series is that almost all the players contributed somewhat towards the team’s cause and some were good with when batting while others performed when the ball was in their hand. Hence it’s imperative the untested lot should be given an outing and play their part in the clean sweep.
In addition, the good bowling performance from Mohit Sharma showed that there are more options in bowling department for India and not only this but his performance has also stolen the chance from Vinay Kumar to show his worth in front of selectors. Till now, Kumar is the player for India who has given the worst performance on this tour.
On the other hand, Zimbabwe have been disappointed much by their batting line. Their captain Brendon Taylor has also been experiencing a bad patch which has let the team down even further. Another problem lies in the fact that their bowlers failed to deal with new ball all through the series and the way they have lost the games continuously would really have disheartened them especially after two months training for this very series. The hopes to beat the World Champs once in this series would also fade out soon as the visitors are becoming used to these playing conditions.
However, the Zimbabwean captain still has a few options to try in order to turn the tables in the favor of his team. On the other hand, his counterpart, Virat Kohli, has got enormous talent in the camps which he can utilize at any instant. But the Zimbabwean captain will have to think seriously about what can serve him the best as they head towards the last and final ODI of this series. He’ll have to motivate his team and play some aggressive cricket showing some character against the World Champs, who are really hard to tackle but not impossible to defeat. If they play aggressive cricket, and most importantly not throw away the initiatives both in batting and bowling, then they certainly stand a chance to challenge the young and relatively inexperienced Indian team.
Though, it might have been a practice series for India against low-ranked opponent but the fact is that they would definitely have discovered much of their internal strengths and weaknesses that will help them for the big future tours.
