After a convincing series win over Scotland, Pakistan are now ready for the next phase of their tour to Europe. Ireland is their next stay. Both the teams will take on each other on Thursday 23rd of March at Dublin in the 1st of the two ODIs. Both the teams have faced each other thrice before this encounter. They first met at the world cup 2007 where the underdogs, Ireland, came out with an upset victory over the big fellows. Later in 2011 both the sides met again in a 2 ODIs series where both the home games were lost by Ireland.
Regardless of the reputation of both the sides, it has always been a good battle between both the sides and the fans can expect real fun. The 1st ODI of this series will also be no short of excitement and we can get to see a great game.
Pakistan vs Ireland 1st ODI Live Scorecard
Pakistan, being the stronger side and with a recent series win, have their spirits rising to touch the sky and would be looking to get the full advantage of the series to get used to the playing conditions of Europe as the head towards the Champions Trophy starting from 6th of June.
Pakistan have a comparatively newer side than they had when they last visited Ireland for a two match series. But all the players are in great touch and would look to live up to the expectations of their fans. There had been some problems with the batting line when Pakistan faced Scotland few days back but the issues have to be addressed now as there is lot more to come. With Imran Farhat and Nasir Jamshed at the top and Hafeez backing them up at the 3rd spot, Pakistan have strong top 3 and would look to extract most of the runs from these slots.
Farhat scored a steady 46 at the top in the last game and besides that it was just the captain’s innings that led the side to somewhat a respectable total. Misbah smashed 83 of just 80 balls and was unbeaten at the end. With Irfan, Junaid and Saeed Ajmal as their mainstream bowlers, Pakistan have a deadly bowling attack which can be disastrous for any opponent at these pitches.
A lot would depend on these three in the 1st ODI against Ireland as they have developed such credibility over the years.
Ireland would definitely take heart from the fact that whenever they have played against Pakistan, they have given tough time to the cricketing giant. They have more or less same squad that played against Pakistan in 2011 and many players may not find it hard to tackle the Pakistani big names.
Ireland are going into this series after a great victory over UAE, a weaker side, in March 2013. Ireland won the 1st ODI by 5 wickets and the 2nd ODI by 6 wickets. The wicket-keeper batsman Gary Wilson seemed to be in great knick as he was unbeaten in both the games scoring 72 and 39. Furthermore, Nial O’brien has a great reputation against Pakistan as he was the star performer from Ireland in the worldcup 2007 fixture where Ireland were victorious at the end.
Max Sorensen and Trent Johnston can play a significant role with the new ball and later on Cusack and Stirling can be hard to tackle for the Pakistani batsmen.
