International cricket is back to the home of cricket England as we are heading towards the Champions Trophy which is starting from the 6th of June. But before that teams are trying to arrange as many series as possible to give their players the best chance to perform well in the tournament after getting most international exposure and best match practice. Pakistan has also arranged a series against Scotland, an associate team of ICC, and it is going to be a good experience not only for the players but for the fans as well.
Pakistan vs Scotland 1st ODI Live Scorecard
The first ODI is expected to start at 10:45 local time on 17th May and it is scheduled at Edinburgh. Pakistan would definitely be the favorites for the game because of their experience at the international level but some good cricket can also be expected from Scotland as well.
Scotland are committed to get back their international dignity by performing well in the series against Pakistan and, if not winning it, giving hard time to the International Giant. The side has improved over time in all the departments of the game. They have that knack of fighting till the last breath and make it hard for their opponent to even breathe on the field.
Scotland would be going into the game after 2 ODI losses against Afghanistan, which is a far weaker side than Pakistan, and will have to put up a combined effort with a positive mindset if they have to make things harder for Pakistan and not gift them the game on 17th May. Though they lost both the games against Afghanistan but yet there were many positives that they would have learnt and would definitely implement them in their next ODI against Pakistan who are coming after a series loss and will look to get their rhythm back.
A lot would depend on the batting line and players like Coetzer who scored 133 in the last ODI against Afghanistan can give their campaign a spark against Pakistan. Furthermore, Machan, Davey and Berrington have been promising in their last few performances and can play a significant role in the 1st ODI at Edinburgh.
Pakistan would not also take the game lightly because they have dropped many of their big guns from the squad for their upcoming series. Big names like Shahid Afridi, Younis Khan, Umar Akmal and Umar Gul would not be in the playing XI and they might have to strive hard to get across the line. Their regular openers Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed had a rough time in the ODIs and there were no convincing performances at all. Imran Farhat, who came as a replacement of Nasir Jamshed in the 4th ODI, performed well and scored 93 but he also failed in the last game of the tournament.
There have been no real big names in the middle order and the players like Asad Shafiq and Umar Amin will be making their comeback. Asad played his last game against South Africa on 10th of March where he could only manage 5 runs and was dropped for rest of the series. Umar on the other hand is getting back to the side after few years and will look to satisfy his spot to the selectors.
In the seaming and bouncing conditions, Irfan and Junaid can be a real threat for the Scotland’s batting line and it would be treat to watch the contest.
